Tallbean was set up in 1996 by Heather Richards to meet the needs of childrens’ book publishers by providing a single source of specialist illustrators offering a range of styles.
The team of well-established and creative illustrators is kept relatively small to ensure the close working relationship which Heather has with each one. This, she considers, is the key to a successful outcome.
Heather was a book designer and art buyer at Pearson Education and later at Cambridge University Press Education Division, where she gained a practical understanding of publishers’ demanding requirements for both quality and professionalism.
